[K-Variety] We Got Married 우리 결혼했어요 Favourite Couples

I have been watching We Got Married since it first aired. For those who do not know, We Got Married is Korean variety show on hypothetical marriage between different celebrities. The program matches up several celebrities and displays their proposed marriage life. At times, giving missions to the couples and having them celebrate special days together. Celebrities tend to be actors and idols, but also include models, musicians and gagmen (or gag women).

Although I have watched all the broadcasts for all the couples at the start, I have picking and choosing based on personal preference. Here is the list of my favourite couples for the show.

Leaf couple, Kim Hyun Joong and Hwangbo
Kim Hyun Joong is the leader SS501. I think better known and internationally as well as flower boy F4 member from Boys Over Flowers. Although, he was casted in We Got Married before his drama acting role. I heard once he was casted in the role because the director saw his character matched well from watching him in We Got Married (not sure how true this is). Hwangbo was previously member of Chakra, but at the time of the broadcast has gone solo in techtonik music.

This is one of the rarer couples where the female is older than the man. Hwangbo does look younger than her age and is known for her tomboyish character. This couple is very fun couple. Often playing games and competing against once another. They even played a game to see who should take the bed. Kim Hyun Joong being the winner and actually taking the bed. Hwangbo took it well. Their nickname (if I remember correctly) earned during their honeymoon on Jeju island where they ate samgyeopsal at night (with lettuce of course).

Romantic couple, Alex and Shin Ae
Alex is actually a Korean Canadian. wo.Ot! He is also a member of the music band, Clazziquai.

Alex was envy of his other male counterparts on We Got Married and the romantic image of women in Korea. His trademark was washing his wife's, Shine Ae's feet. Shin Ae is a model in Korea. They were probably the most romantic couple in WGM history.

In sharp contrast is Hyun Don and Saori couple. This must be the worst couple in WGM history, which happen to be in the same season. Hyun Don is gagman and Saori is Japanese born in Korea entertainer. Hyun Don is the epitome of the lazy Korean man. Most of the broadcast films he laying on the couch. He was highly praised by Korean married men as their representative, but was quickly admonished soon afterwards for being too lazy. Sadly for Saori, she was not treated well by Hyun Don and they are the only couple in WGM history to divorce. Hyun Don also probably being the only man to get married twice in the show, reappearing again with Girl Generation's Taeyeon.

Marco and Son Dam Bi
Marco and Son Dam Bi  are both models with Son Dam Bi being a musician as well. At the time, known for her sexy chair dance in her song Crazy.



Conversation between the two were limited due to Marco's limited Korean being born in South America. They are not really one of my favourite couple, but Son Dam Bi came to mind when I was making this list.

Ant couple, Crown J and In Young
This couple is probably the least picturistic couple. The nickname comes from Crown J looking like an ant. They are really cute couple. Although they bicker, you can see them bonding due to the number of shoes they each have and them making concessions to each other.

Crown J and In Young are both musicians. Crown J is a rapper and In Young being a singer.


Gundam couple, Jun Jin and Lee Si Young
Jun Jin debuted as a rapper of the idol group Shinwha. He is second member of Shinwha to appear on WGM after Andy. Lee Si Young is an actor and avid gundam fan. I personally enjoy her films often showcasing a bubbly character.

Not only am a fan of Lee Si Young, I admire her love for gundam. You can see on the show her impressive gundam collection. When Jun Jin accidentally breaks one her gundam models while cleaning, Lee Si Young freaks out and admonishes Jun Jin forbidding him from touching her gundams again.

Adam couple, Jo Kwan and Gain
Jo Kwan and Gain are both idols. Jo Kwan being the leader of 2AM and Gain, a singer from Brown Eyed Girls. They are cute couple and often seen comparing themselves against the Khuntoria couple. Nickhun from Khuntoria couple trained together with Jo Kwan during their training days and were close before their WGM appearance.

They are also seen belittling themselves due to their short stature, again comparing themselves with the Khuntoria.

Khuntoria, Nickhun and Victoria
This is really fun couple. Nickhun is the wrapper of 2PM and Victoria is the leader of f(x).
Interestingly, they are the only couple on WGM who are both not Korean. They are Korean entertainers though. Nickhun being more proficient in Korean. He is from Thailand thus dubbed the name Thai prince. And Victoria is from mainland China.

They are naturally friendly and picturistic couple. Seen envied by Adam couple.

Sweet potato Goguma couple, Jung Yonghwa and Seohyun
Jun Yonghwa is the leader of CNBLUE whist Seohyun is maknae (youngest) member of Girl's Generation. They earned their nickname due to Seohyun's love of sweet potatoes, goguma in Korean.

They are really nice and sweet couple. Seohyun kindly reminds Yonghwa to fasten his seatbelt in their training van early in the show. Often, passengers do not buckle their seatbelts in the backseat of these vans, probably because the size of the van and being in the backseat. This catches Yonghwa as a surprise and quickly fastens his seatbelt as well. Yonghwa is seen doing storybook events and showcasing his characterture.

Bass member of CNBLUE, Lee Jung Shin often makes appearances with the sweet potato couple and earned the name Nation's Chingoo, Jung Shin Chingoo. Chingoo meaning friend in Korean.

Jung couple,  Jo Jung Chi and Jung In
This is one of my favourite couples. And the first real couple on WGM. Prior to their appearance, they have been dating for a shocking 10 years.

Jo Jung Chi is a guitarist in the Shin Chi Rim and Jung In is a singer. They are really unique couple, largely in part of Jung In's unique personality. They decided to leave the show to get married. Their nickname comes from the character Jung being in both their names.



Jinwoon and Ko Joon-hee
This is another couple where the female is older than the male. They are a charming couple. Jinwoon a member of 2AM and Ko Joon-hee and actor. Despite the age difference, they are comfortable on the show as Jinwoon looks older than his age. Ko Joon-hee is quite beautiful as well.

Ko Joon-hee is a fashionista and often seen admiring Jinwoon's back muscles.

Jung Jung couple, Jung Joon Young and Jung Yoo Mi
Another couple where the female lead is older. Jung Yoo Mi is good natured and goes along with Jung Joon Young, who often plays tricks on her and naturally playful. Jung Joon Young is a young rocker and Jung Yoo Mi is an actress.

Jung Joon Young is passionate with playing video games often for hours to Jung Yoo Mi's frustration. From this, you can see her compassionate and patient character, often giving into Joon Young.

Jang Wooyoung and Park Se Young
Wooyoung is member of 2PM, same as Nickhun. And Park Se Young is an actress. They met once before prior to the show through a commercial.

Wooyoung is often seen committing mistakes, bringing up his past loves. Park Se Young is a bit tomboyish.

I have excluded couples from Global We Got Married. The show context is very similar to the original except the show matches a Korean celebrity with Asian celebrities abroad. Celebrities from Asian countries have come from Japan, Taiwan, and mainland China. The show is much shorter although still interesting. Particularly. because of the cultural differences.
